WHAT IS GIS?

GIS is Geographic Information Systems. What is that? It is a powerful, new computerized analytical tool using fully interelational data bases with fully automated cartography (map making). GIS uses the tremendous power of both to help you analyse problems, opportunities, and solutions. You can apply GIS to any academic field, job situation, and inquiry you can imagine.

HOW DO YOU USE GIS?

GIS solves problems:

  • Where do types of animals, people, plants, etc. exist?
  • Where can I find people who speak various languages?
  • Where do problems occur?
  • Where is my competition?
  • Where are my customers?
  • How would this plan look?

What if??????

WHO SHOULD USE GIS?

There is no job, no profession, no career, no academic field which cannot very profitably apply GIS!

CYPRESS COLLEGE GIS LEARNING ENVIRONMENT PREMISE

With the advent of sophisticated, user-friendly ArcView GIS, it has become possible to work the GIS curriculum downward into the freshman and sophomore level. This enables serious training and development of technical skills in all disciplines, which will then permit universities the opportunity to enhance their junior, senior, and graduate training and education in applications of GIS, again, in all disciplines. Bringing GIS to the freshman and sophomore level allows greater opportunity for mainstreaming GIS universally into the curriculum.

GIS IS A TRULY INTER-DISCIPLINARY, MULTI-DISCIPLINARY TECHNOLOGY! WHERE PEOPLE FROM:
  • Vocational Education
  • Technical Education
  • Enhancing Career - Returning to Work
CAN WORK TOGETHER, SIMULANEOUSLY LEARNING THIS NEW TECHNOLOGY!!!

We believe GIS should not be a single-subject certificate program, unless a school wishes to concentrate in a specialty.
