8/25/99 For my GIS project of redeveloping the central business district (CBD) in Echo Park, I've found that it will be plausible to get the necessary references to create a database. I've checked many sources from the Internet to calling people from the city planner and getting recommendation from Carl Shiigi, a planner for CalTran. The four main sources that I will be using are The City Planner of Los Angeles, Daniel Munoz, Mapquest.com, and Carl Shiigi. Carl Shiigi, is a dear friend of mine he's also very knowledgeable in the field of Geography. As a planner for CalTran, and a resident of Echo Park, he also knows the in and out of the area. Since Carl is familiar with planning, I have discussed my project and he fully support and willing to help in any ways possible. The city planner of LA has agreed to send some information relating to the area of Echo Park such as; race, gender, financial, and educational background. It will be very helpful to receive guidance and support from the City of LA and the people of Echo Park. I want to get the demographic of Echo Park to foresee the opportunity and the types of resources that this area has. Daniel Munoz, a historian of Echo Park, has an archive of Echo Park. Mr. Munoz is allowing me to look into his archive and will be providing assistant in my research. He is also very active in the community and has a lot of contacts. Last but not least, Mapquest.com gives me an overview of all the major cross street passing through Echo Park. This project is one of the most important tools toward the redevelopment of Echo Park, because it will help revise the community and the pride that this community once had. Good Sources:
