9/5/99 Description The narrow split in the earth's crust that stretches from the Imperial Valley to northern California is the basis of my map. This split is known as the San Andreas Fault line. There is many other fault lines in California, which my map will show, that are separated by distance from the San Andreas Fault. As the population of our golden state grows, so is the increase of chance of disasters from earthquakes. The illustration of major earthquakes along the fault line can be used as a planning tool for future building considerations, emergency planning, as well as re evaluating existing infrastructure in relation to these fault lines. I have found an abundant amount of data on the Internet from reputable institutions, which URL's are included. I would like to illustrate the fault lines covering California with features that show historical as, well as, frequency of earthquakes greater in magnitude 5. The information for the features would be location, date, time, magnitude greater than 5. Sources
