 (HUSR 225)

This course presents the dynamics of the family system as they are affected by addiction.  Theories of healthy and unhealthy family interaction are explored and the experiential format provides the opportunity for skill development and practical experience.

Catalog Course Description:

Goals and Objectives of the Class:

The passing student at the conclusion of the class will demonstrate an understanding and comprehension of the dynamics of family, friends and social institutions in reinforcing the addictive lifestyle.

1. The student will be knowledgeable of a variety of family therapy theoretical models to better understand the varying types of functional and dysfunctional family systems.

2. Each student will have developed and will be able to utilize legal and ethical principals common to the counseling professions in the State of California.

3. The student will have acquired beginning therapy techniques to use with individuals and families.

4. The student will have an increased understanding of their own behaviors and motivations within their own family systems.
