Welcome to information for
the
Cypress College Human Services Department
We are proud to offer the
basic academic preparation necessary to enter this field. Our programs provide
the foundation for higher level degrees and management positions in a variety
of human services agencies. Our faculty are specially trained and many work
in or have worked in the field of their specialty. Certificates and/or an
Associate of Arts degree in Human Services are available.
The department of Human Services
has been part of Cypress College since 1982. The Human Services program
at Cypress College is accredited by the CAADE
(The California Association for Alcohol and Drug Educators). CAADE is one
of the credentialing organization included in the State of California Department
of Alcohol and Drug Programs directory meeting the minimum criteria for
Alcohol and Drug Counseling.

Each Specialization
recommends a core of required including fieldwork experience and 6to
12 units of specialization courses. The curriculum are designed in a
way that students with interests in several areas can completer more
than one certificate program in an effective and efficient manner.
Associate of Arts
Degree in Human Services
The Human Services
Program for the Associate of Arts Degree prepares students for a
variety of careers in private social services agencies. Course work
includes completion of 24 units plus 12 elective units in one or more
specialty areas of Alcohol and Drug Studies, Eating
Disorders, Family Studies, Human Services Generalists,
and Victimology. To earn an Associate's Degree students must
complete: (1) all major course requirements with a minimum of a
"C"; (2) 25 units of General Education Requirements; (3) any
elective courses to complete a minimum of 60 units; (4) and with
overall Grade Point Average of 2.0. At least 50% of all courses work
must be completed at Cypress College.
Faculty
Human Services
instructors at Cypress College currently work, or have worked in the
fields which they provide instruction. Consequently, they offer a
broad range of direct experience to the students. Strong
emphasis is placed on practical application of theoretical knowledge
to solve problems and to meet the growing needs of our communities.
